I used to listen to The Velvet Underground & Nico over and over and over when I was a teenager. It stayed on the turntable for a week without turning it over when I first bought it because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing on side one. I sat there for about fifteen minutes in silence the first time before playing side one over and over again. Once I heard side two, I knew the foreboding I felt was real.
Listening to this again now to refresh my memories, I can hear how I learned to play guitar by its cues.
Here’s a good review.
Lou Reed’s web site has a jukebox that plays recently recorded live tracks. Check out his latest version of “All Tommorow’s Parties.” The best concert I ever attended was his performance in Washington, DC at the D.A.R. Constitution Hall. Here's a description I posted elsewhere (it’s #512).
