Artist: Oysterhead Little Faces: A good start to a power trio supergroup disc. Quiet and mysterious becomes loud bass + drums + guitar. Neat sing-song melody. Oz Is Ever Floating: Sounds immediately like a Phish song. And continues to do so. I'll let you decide if this is a detriment. Song is about floating (in a dark water chamber - people really do this) which is at least new subject matter for pop/rock. Evokes _Revolver_. Mr. Oysterhead: Black Sabbath gets funky. Very danceable and sing-songy. You *will* be singing the chorus. Shows off the group's collective dementia. Shadow Of A Man: Claypool mimicking the Residents again, so he shows his good taste. His chorus' are so catchy he should write children's books. *reconsidering* Or, not. Radon Balloon: Boy, this *really* sounds like Phish. Gamehenge anyone? Was this song left over from a previous project? Demonstrates Oysterhead's sensitive side. Army's On Ecstasy: Sounds like Primus. Ah, these guys really do what they do, don't they? Claypool's work is stronger on this disc, in general. Lyrics are fun. Hard to discount the drugs=peace formula here. Rubberneck Lions: Maybe the best song on the disc. An emotional song and a solid collaboration. Polka Dot Rose: Forgettable? An excuse to jam. Birthday Boys: Great acoustic work with a sweet tag lick. Introspective and fast paced without becoming bluegrass. I'm not sure the ending works, though. Wield The Spade: Lyrics are credited to Copeland and MacDonald(?). It seems Copeland was not a bystander to the Police's obsession with Banana Republic Earth. A spooky, menacing song. Psuedo Suicide: Heavy song with Claypool at the helm. Again, Sabbath lives. The Grand Pecking Order: Primus lives, too. Owner of the World: Another that shows off the strengths of collaboration. Overall: This disc is rock - so don't look for anything else. It isn't even particularly innovative. Claypool's bass playing seems very restrained and Trey generally only unleashes during his solo time. This is a very good thing. Lyrically, it is political, in a personal way. personal way.
