New Law to Ban Swords

I believe someone asked me once, and I quote: “Do you really anticipate your skill with a sword to come in handy someday? Is there a roaming band of sword wielding ruffians in Slippery Rock I don't know about?”

My answers are the same: no (as regards a live steel swordfight) and no. But I am reconsidering in light of the news that there are roaming bands of sword wielding ruffians in Victoria, Australia. A recent attack has led directly to a new law forbidding ownership of a sword without a permit.

“Mr Haermeyer said groups such as highland dancers, historic re-enactment groups, bonafide collectors and people with family heirlooms could apply for an exemption from the licensing services branch of Victoria Police.” There's a high level of trust in some of the craziest people I have ever met.

Perhaps I should be training in disarming sword wielding ruffians when I am myself without a sword. Like this. Or this. Or this.

More to the point, I will once again meditate on what my martial art provides me when it comes to actual combat, which is quite a lot, awareness and timing being forefront in my mind.
