Save Our Constitution

Tim Robbins is eloquent, as displayed in his speech to the National Press Club on the 15th.

I'm extremely bothered by the so-called Patriot Acts 1 and 2. Salon has a good overview for those who aren't aware of how horrible they are. What percentage of the voting public supported Hitler? Eighty-nine percent? The protection of Truth and Justice shouldn't be a popularity contest.

The Patriot Acts do not bother me in the least. Neither does racial profiling. These measures are needed during these trying times.

Do you actually think I am going to worry about offending someone who could very well be plotting the murder of myself or a family member just because he doesn't like our politics ?

Get real, better yet - get some common sense. We will eventually see ourselves around this but for now we have to do what we have to do.

Obviously not everyone agrees with me — hence the general lack of concern for these acts. Fear is a powerful motivator, but tends to push an otherwise just people towards desperate measures. I'm more concerned about betraying innocence than causing simple offense. Americans can do better.
