Stonewall

And, no, not Jackson (though he was a talented, tough son-of-a-bitch).

Atrios has a post on the riots at the Stonewall Inn. My good friend Matthew educated me about this event. It came up as an echo in the dialogue concerning Santorum's faith-based bigotry.

I was surprised to learn that Dave Van Ronk was at the Inn that night. He had one of the best folk blues growls ever, and I'm a big fan of Mississippi John Hurt. This is most curious since I heard Tom Paxton talk about him on A Prairie Home Companion on the way home from Blackstone. Tom sang a song written by himself about John Hurt, but which he conceded sounded better when Dave sang it.

I especially like hamletta's comment.
