Blood

Salon’s interview with Mr. Arthur Kent contains the truth about America’s march to Baghdad. I was surprised to find someone who is expressing my concerns so eloquently. There has been a disconcerting lack of intelligent analysis in the media.

As Kent said:

“The bad news for American television journalism, in particular, is the concentration of ownership by major corporations more interested in revenue and ratings than they are in news divisions having appropriate editorial control and keeping entertainment values out of the news. That has been disastrous.”

We are hemophiliacs picking at a scab. It feels good to wear a white hat, and Americans have always enjoyed the rescuer role. Who doesn’t like to be needed? But a show of force against a nation state is not going to reduce recruitment for organizations who would destroy the Constitution. They will delight in vindication and desperation will fuel them.

The world needs justice. We’ll all have a serving before this is through.

I don’t mind George W. Bush being from Texas, or a born again fundamentalist, and talking as though he was dealt a royal flush. It would be great if his policies were crafted with the broad interests of the American people in mind. No, he does’t come off as polished, but take a second look at Rumsfeld and Cheney. They are directing this “straight talker” of a president.

If only Powell had taken the initiative and run for office. Everyone I know would have voted for you, Mr. Powell. Everyone.
