Opera 7 Final Released

I've been using Opera as my main browser for a while now (hmm, over a year, I think). So now I have the latest and greatest with its very Mac default skin. I am impressed. Okay, I didn't like importing my mail. If you are like me, you are confused and pissed when someone rearranges your kitchen. But the mail client (called ‘M2’… uh, okay, why not?) is fantastic once you understand how it sorts and links everything for you.

This is small stuff, though. Opera has increased its support for all of the W3C standards. As soon as Tim updates his most excellent ‘30 Days to Becoming an Opera Lover,’ you can learn why you, too, should be using this Swedish wonder.

Here's how the new version changed my life tonight:

  • A page would not load the hiragana because the header did not specify the language or coding. So, I forced it to load as Japanese.
  • My mailing lists were automatically sorted, and could be viewed by thread. Also, I can click on a contact and see all of the mail that person has sent to me. I have tried many mail clients, but I like the way Opera's works. It just happens to be built in. And it's ‘new and improved’®.
  • I logged into this journal automatically with the Wand. Okay, not unique in concept, but you can create a password for your automatic passwords. Also, you don't know automatic until you've seen the Wand.

That's all for now.

Quick update. I had strange mail problems that really made M2 difficult to use (beyond the paradigm shift). I found that 7.01 was out and downloaded it with Java so I would have a good archive for backups. I made the proper copies for backup and uninstalled Opera 7.0 and Java. After reinstalling, everything works great. So, yeah, the links above will take you to the latest version.
