This is late, as usual, but you should be aware of who has organized the anti-war protests. It bothers me that, once again, democratic expression may be squelched because of the narrowing of the political debate. Hell, it already has been. Wanting to explore possibilities that allow a win for both Americans and Iraqis (the people, people!) is not un-American. It's practical. And humane.
There were a lot of people at the protests, though. And when did at least greater than 100,000 (a very conservative low estimate for the DC protest) become merely “tens of thousands”?
This reminds me of the father of a friend of mine who protested the Vietnam War. He worked hard to bring busloads of middle class people to Washington, DC. He was upset at the Communists who, instead of presenting the message "Out Now!", were pushing "Negotiate Now!" I understand what he meant now and how it happened.
Interestingly, he was also upset by the hippy-dippy types who would chant for peace. I can understand that being a barrier to communication if you're trying to draw in the mainstream.
